Sheldon I. Dorenfest has donated one of his company’s, Sheldon I. Dorenfest and Associates, Ltd., and its historical data assets to the HIMSS Foundation which has created The Dorenfest Institute for Health Information Technology Research and Education to offer free use of the donated data to various eligible beneficiaries.

Operated through the HIMSS Foundation, the Dorenfest Institute for Health Information Technology Research and Education will help meet the academic and global demand for healthcare I.T. data to improve patient care. Using an online service to provide the data to healthcare researchers, the Dorenfest Institute will provide a variety of detailed historical data about I.T. use in hospitals and integrated healthcare delivery networks at no charge to universities, students, U.S. federal, state, and local governments, and governments of other countries for research purposes. The data includes the entire library of Dorenfest 3000+ Databases™ and Dorenfest Integrated Healthcare Delivery System Databases™ for the period of 1986 through 2002, as well as many publications on I.T. use in the healthcare industry.
